FORBES ORGAN SERIES: Christian Elliott plays "The Mark of Zorro" (1920)

  • Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo - Harold Miossi Hall 1 Grand Avenue San Luis Obispo, CA, 93405 United States (map)

THURS, OCT 30 | 7:30PM | HAROLD MIOSSI HALL | $35

Christian Elliott is a prominent concert organist, equally at home performing literature of the church and theatre. Elliott has had a major career accompanying silent film at venues including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Stanford Theatre, and UCLA. In his San Luis Obispo appearance, Elliott will provide live accompaniment to the 1920 silent film The Mark of Zorro, a heroic tale of the masked swashbuckler.

Set to the rich tones of the Forbes Pipe Organ, audiences will watch legendary silent film actor Douglas Fairbanks Sr. bring to life Don Diego Vega—a seemingly foppish nobleman in Spanish California who secretly transforms into Zorro, a daring vigilante fighting injustice. With exhilarating sword fights, daring stunts, and clever disguises, the film highlights Fairbanks’ athleticism, charisma, and iconic screen presence. With its blend of humor, romance, and adventure, the film’s influence has extended far beyond its time—inspiring countless masked hero stories and establishing Zorro as a timeless cultural icon.

. . . the best of the best . . . this recording (will be) one of the few ‘classics’ in the theatre organ world. It gets the highest possible recommendation.
