Three years ago, 23-year-old Lucía became the first Mexican finalist—and winner—at the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Her performance of “What a Difference a Day Makes,” blending English jazz ballad, Spanish bolero, and zapateado dance, marked her unique style.
Now based in New York, Lucía’s debut album Lucía showcases her rich voice and multicultural roots. It features jazz and Latin classics—like “Alfonsina y el Mar” and “Veracruz”—and collaborators including Antonio Sánchez and Larry Grenadier, under the production of Matt Pierson.
Born in Veracruz to musicians in the son jarocho scene, Lucía grew up immersed in Latin folk and jazz. With a degree in Jazz Studies and touring experience with Natalia Lafourcade, she’s now embarking on a 2025 tour across Europe and the Americas - we can’t wait to welcome her to beautiful San Luis Obispo. Fusing jazz with her cultural heritage, Lucía says, “I wanted to create a sound that truly reflects who I am.”
