  • Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo 1 Grand Avenue San Luis Obispo, CA, 93405 United States (map)

THURS, OCT 22 | 7:30PM | HAROLD MIOSSI HALL | $35

Christian Elliott is a prominent concert organist, equally at home performing the literature of the church and the theatre. A distinguished silent film accompanist, Elliott has appeared at venues including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Stanford Theatre, and UCLA. In his San Luis Obispo appearance, he will provide live accompaniment to Buster Keaton’s masterpiece The General (1926), celebrating the film’s 100th anniversary.

Set to the rich tones of the Forbes Pipe Organ, audiences will experience one of the greatest achievements of the silent era. Inspired by the true story of the Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War, The General follows railroad engineer Johnny Gray (Buster Keaton) as he embarks on a daring pursuit to recover his stolen locomotive and rescue the woman he loves. Blending spectacular action, inventive comedy, and astonishing practical stunts performed by Keaton himself, the film remains a landmark of cinematic storytelling. A century after its premiere, The General continues to captivate audiences with its humor, ingenuity, and breathtaking train sequences - making this live accompaniment a truly unforgettable way to experience a silent film classic.

‘The General,’ in it’s entirety, is a chase film. It’s got some of the most spectacular action I’ve ever seen.
