DakhaBrakha

  • Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo - Harold Miossi Hall 1 Grand Avenue San Luis Obispo, CA, 93405 United States (map)

THURS, FEB 19 | 7:30PM | HAROLD MIOSSI HALL | $35-55

DakhaBrakha is a Kyiv-based music quartet known for their “ethno chaos” sound—a bold fusion of traditional Ukrainian polyphony with global influences like African rhythms, Indian melodies, and punk energy. Formed in 2004 at the DAKH Center for Contemporary Art, the group’s theatrical roots shape their visually rich performances, often accompanied by striking imagery of contemporary Ukraine. Their music, layered and percussive, reflects both pre-colonial heritage and post-Soviet identity, connecting Ukraine to a broader global culture. Internationally acclaimed, they’ve performed at major festivals like Glastonbury and WOMAD, and have received top honors including Ukraine’s Shevchenko National Prize. Amid war and upheaval, DakhaBrakha continues to create, with a new album in progress that captures the spirit of a nation in flux.

Don’t miss this electrifying concert that brings the heartbeat of Ukraine to San Luis Obispo in a bold, transformative celebration of sound, spirit, and resistance.

The group mixes everything from punk-pop to traditional Ukrainian songs in cool yet beguiling textures, often with the close harmonies usually associated with Balkan music. But it’s really the live shows that take DakhaBrakha beyond mere curiosity to utter brilliance.
